An illustrated children's book, written by Iris Argaman and published by Zeltner publishing. The story is based on the life of Holocaust survivor Dita Kraus. As a child Dita and her family were sent to the family camp among other jews from theresienstadt, in Birkenau, Auschwitz. Amid the horrors of Auschwitz Dita found a makeshift home in Block 31, The Children's Block. Founded and lead by Freddy Hirsch, Block 31 served formally as a school and in practice as a safe haven for the children of the family camp. Freddy appointed Dita the librarian of the block making her in charge of the few books there and in doing so gave her a responsibility and a purpose.
