Gospel Song was my final project at Bezalel, a graphic novel based on a short story of the same name by Dorothy Allison. We follow Dorothy as a child in the late 50's in South Carolina dreaming of earning love by becoming a gospel singer. She befriends Shannon Pearl, an albino girl ostracized by the community. Throughout their tumultuous relationship they find solace in each others experience of alienation.
This book was awarded first place in The Dorothy Kertesz Bezalel Comics Prize in 2023.
